Levi Strauss & Co (LS&Co) is a worldwide corporation, organised into three geographic divisions (San Francisco, Belgium and Singapore). The company realised that it needed to identify ways to increase its capacity to continually deal with HSE issues in all its operations around the world.
In addition to this, it knew that in the current environment – where legal requirements were constantly changing and civil society demands continued to increase – it was essential that LS&Co was able to better integrate HSE management into its day-to-day processes.
With its inception, the Levi Strauss & Co Sustainability Operations team recognised that having knowledgeable staff members in all departments was essential for proactively managing HSE risks, and there was a need for a training course that could set an HSE standard throughout its global operations.
“SAMTRAC International provided a state-of-the-art e-learning platform and incorporated local HSE legislation.”
LS&Co approached Enhesa, a leader in global HSE compliance assurance, and its training partner, SAMTRAC International.
SAMTRAC International was able to provide LS&Co with a solution to its global HSE training requirements, with its first truly global HSE training course, that includes:
- an interactive e-learning platform;
- professionally translated content;
- easy-to-use country-specific legislation; and
- globally-located examination centres and international accreditation through the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
Through a series of presentations, SAMTRAC International was selected as the benchmark for HSE training throughout LS&Co’s global operations.
Over the last two years, SAMTRAC International has successfully upskilled 26 employees in Asia, Europe, Africa, South and North America, who have completed the course in English, Mandarin and Spanish.
In addition, LS&Co works with a large number of suppliers worldwide, and identified the need to stimulate HSE culture within its supply chain. By 2020, LS&Co’s goal is to eliminate the discharge of priority substances, across this supply chain.
SAMTRAC International meets the HSE requirements of LS&Co’s Restricted Substance Stewardship Program (RSSP), and has been endorsed as the preferred HSE training course for all technical representatives within its supply chain.
In addition, in 2014 LS&Co and SAMTRAC International worked together to customise the course’s delivery and cost to suit individual supplier requirements. LS&Co launched an initiative to fund top performing suppliers, which resulted in increased focus on HSE-related issues and improved relationships with its suppliers. Today, over 22 technical representatives have successfully completed the SAMTRAC International course.
