Part one of our report on global trends in e-learning looked at how learning platforms are changing. Part two is looking at how e-learning can be incorporated into health and safety training in the workplace.

E-learning in HSE

The future of e-learning looks bright for health, safety and environmental (HSE) training. Here are some statistics cited by eLearning Industry :

  • Companies who utilise e-learning tools and strategies have the potential to boost productivity by up to 50%; and for every $1 the company spends it is estimated it can receive $30 worth of productivity in return.
  • E-learning has the ability to increase information retention rates by up to 60%. This means that not only is e-learning more cost-efficient, but more cost-effective as well (in terms of how much knowledge is acquired during the learning process).

In 2014, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) published a foresight report on new and emerging occupational safety and health (OSH) risks and challenges. In this foresight report the EU-OSHA identified five new and emerging risks and challenges that would drive change in the field of occupational safety and health (Cox and Fletcher, 2014).
